Hangul, in My Way

Hangul was created by King Sejong the Great with the hope that everyone could read and write, regardless of their background or education. At a time when the Chinese writing system was difficult for ordinary people to learn, he created a writing system that was simple, intuitive, and accessible to all.

But to me, Hangul is more than just a writing system. It is a beautiful expression of Korean culture—thoughtfully designed, deeply meaningful, and full of its own unique character.

As a Korean, I wanted to explore and share that beauty in my own way. That desire became the beginning of this project.

I combined each Korean consonant with playful cat illustrations and short phrases inspired by words of comfort, encouragement, and connection. My hope is to make learning Hangul feel less like studying and more like discovering something warm and joyful.

Eventually, these illustrations and messages will become a collection of greeting cards—small pieces of art that introduce the beauty of Hangul while offering a little encouragement to someone who needs it.

Through this project, I hope to share a small part of Korean culture, one letter and one kind message at a time.
